Valais or Wallis, as it is better known in Germany, is one of the 26 cantons in southern Switzerland. It is home to The Matterhorn, one of the most iconic mountains in the world. The pyramid-shaped peak is an unmistakable sight, and it’s no wonder that it’s one of the most popular destinations for climbers and hikers. Valais is also well-known for the ever-popular Verbier and Zermatt ski resorts and the upper Rhône River Valley vineyards.


Erich Hermès was a well-known illustrator in the early 1900s. His artwork often depicts everyday scenes, and this travel poster is no exception. The woman in the poster is shown with her donkey, loaded down with her harvest. She is standing in front of a traditional stone and wood chalet mountain station.
