Klosters. ca. 1925."In Switzerland, as in the rest of Europe, generally, tourist posters [of the period]show that interest was diverted away from the beauty of landscapes to play up the activities in which the vacationers could participate. Tennis is a priority distraction here, the netting of a court relegating bathing and boating to the middle ground" (Le Tennis). On the banks of the Plaettigau in the northeast corner of the largest Swiss cantons, Klosters is a fully equipped, full-season resort. For the traveler, this little mountain state astride the Alps is undoubtedly one of the finest places in Switzerland to enjoy the clear blue skies and open countryside. Few poster painters brought as much painterliness to lithography as Stiefel, an accomplished landscape and portrait painter, muralist, stage decorator, and book illustrator.
